Biography

Her voice, facial expressions and her body language all help in the way she can make you love her characters even though they are not always the most desirable. She is one of the few child stars who has gone on to have a successful mature career. But that success had it's share of particularly rough times.

Drew Blythe Barrymoore was born on February 22, 1975. She comes from a family of seemingly self destructive and dysfunctional actors and actresses. Her parents are John and Jaid Barrymoore. She hardly knew her father and one of her only recollections of him is when he would come home drunk and physically abuse her. Her mother had her working in T.V. commercials before the age of one and by the time she was the delicate age of 7 she was starring in the box-office record-breaker "E.T." (1982).

At age 14 she wrote her autobiography. A torrid tale of drinking by age 9, smoking pot at 10, snorting cocaine by age 12 and being the youngest star to attend the infamous Studio 54. Her mother finally admitted her into rehab when Drew was 14. Thus began her long, hard road to recovery.

After moving out of her mothers apartment, Drew began her new career. She starred in numerous hardly-seen movies until 1992's "Poison Ivy," where she played an immoral teen seductress. The role brought her some recognition that was enhanced by a Guess add that highlighted her sex appeal.

She worked steadily in the following years in films such as "Guncrazy" (1992), "Bad Girls" (1994), "Boys on the Side" (1995), "Mad Love" (1995) and "Batman Forever" (1995). In the mid 90's, Drew had made quite a reputation for herself as the 'bad girl' in town. She married and divorced an L.A. bar owner in the span of 2 months, flashed WAY too much skin on the David Letterman show and the China Club and was rumored to be back to her old substance abusing behavior.

Then she began to shed her wild image and began starring in movies that showed more of her talent and a softer side. She was cast in Woody Allens "Everyone Says I Love You" in 1996, which she also sang in. She gave a wonderfully lovable performance in 1998's "The Wedding Singer". She went on to play the Cinderella role in "Ever After"(1998), a pregnant waitress in the dark comedy "Home Fries" (1998), and a pathetic reporter in "Never Been Kissed" (1999).

She formed the production company Flower Films with Nancy Jevonen which debuted with "Never Been Kissed". Flower Films will also be releasing Drew's latest starring movie, "Charlie's Angels" co-starring Bill Murray, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lui.
