biography

Lucy Alexis Liu was born on December 2, 1968 to Chinese immigrant parents in an Italian neighborhood of Queens, New York. Her father was a civil engineer prior to immigrating to America and her mother was a biochemist. Upon arrival in America her parents worked various jobs, her father finally ended up selling pen watches, and her mother as a clerk at Macys. The one thing her parents stressed to her, her brother and her sister was the need for an education. As a result, Lucy graduated from University of Michigan with a degree in Asian Language and Culture.

Lucy graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1986 and then went on to attend New York University. After a year, finding New York University to dark and depressing, she transferred to the University of Michigan where she obtained her degree. While studying for her degree, Lucy perused a career as an artist and had a show in SOHO in 1986 where she earned a grant to study art in China for a year. The results of which were shown at Venice, CA gallery in 1997. As well, she also studied dance, drama, voice and singing while maintaining her regular studies. Her first part in show business came when she landed the lead in a remaking of "Alice in Wonderland" during university.

Lucy's big break in the field came when she landed a part with the hit comedy "Ally McBeal". Initially she auditioned for David Kelley for another role - a part that went to the blond Portia di Rossi - but her icy exterior attracted him and he wrote the part of Ling Woo for her as a guest spot. She captured the audience and producers so much in the role that she has now become a permanent member of the cast.

Lucy has since been expanding her wings to include movie credits to her resume. She recently was cast as a member of the new "Charlie's Angels." She was the last "Angel" to be cast and as a result joined the martial arts training a couple of months after Drew Barrymore and Camerson Diaz. This wasn't a problem for her since she already had training in Kali-Eskrima-silat.

Lucy has been so busy that she hasn't had time to cultivate any personal relationships let alone find a husband and when asked she says she has no desire to do so. Lucy says that she can't see herself living with anyone let alone marrying someone. She doesn't wish to give up control of her life to anyone, not even to Hollywood. A bit of a thrill seeker, Lucy lives life to the fullest, stating that she has no intention of even letting one day go by without enjoying it.
