biography
Molly Ringwald is a former "Brat Pack" actress who in recent years has experienced a slow professional career. Ringwald was born February 18, 1968 in Sacramento, California to a blind jazz pianist Bob Ringwald and mother Adele. Ringwald began performing at the tender age of 3 1/2 with her fathers jazz band The Fulton Street Jazz Band. At the age of six she recorded her first album "I Wanna Be Loved by You".
Ringwald's first acting job was at the age of six in a commercial. At age of 8, she appeared on Disney's "New Mickey Mouse Club" to sing a medley of 1920's Jazz and Pop tunes. Her first big break in acting was as Kate in the a production of "Annie". She appeared in this role from June 1978 to September 1979. After leaving "Annie" she had the role of Molly in the premiere season of NBC's television show "Facts of Life". In 1980 she got the opportunity to act in her first feature film, "Tempest", from Columbia Pictures. Since her debut performance in "Tempest (1982)," she has acted in the following John Hughes' "Brat Pack" films: "Sixteen Candles (1984)", "The Breakfast Club (1985)", "Pretty in Pink (1986)", and "Betsy's Wedding (1990)". When she refused the role of Lea Tompson in "Some Kind of Wonderful", she effectively ended the successful business relationship which she had shared with John Hughes. As a result of poor decisions and bad luck, Molly Ringwald has been relegated to the television world. One of her latest was Stephen King's "The Stand".
From being voted one of the ten most promising actors in 1984, Ringwald's fortune has fallen. She continues to perform Jazz making appearances as a Guest Star at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in 1973, 1974, 1979, 1980 and 1993. She married Valery Lameignere' a fiction writer on July 18, 1999. Hopefully, Ringwald will once again find her track to stardom.
