biography
Trisha Yearwood was born on September 19, 1964 in Monticello, Georgia. She grew up on a 30 acre farm and at the age of five was dreaming of marrying Elvis and growing up to be Cher. Her father, a prominent retired banker, and mother, a retired school teacher, encouraged and supported their daughter in her aspirations to become a singer. She would frequently enter talent contests and jam with local bands.
She enrolled in college and in 1985 transferred to Nashville's Belmont University music business program. Before graduating she did a two-year internship at MTM Records and began her move upwards in the music world. She also became friends with developing artists such as Garth Brooks. For a while Trisha worked as a demo singer, and then began singing back-up for Brooks, who promised her that if he became successful, he would help her career. She also worked with Pat Alger, and while singing with him at a local bar she was discovered by producer Garth Fundis. Fundis put together a showcase performance, and she was signed to MCA.
Yearwoods debut single was 1991's "She's In Love With The Boy". It tapped into a new youthful market for country music that the industry was not yet aware of. Her single shot up the charts to #1. Her self titled debut album contained hits such as "That's What I Like About You" and was certified double platinum for two million copies sold and won numerous awards.
She then worked as opening act for friend Garth Brooks and her next two albums, Hearts in Armor (1992) and The Song Remembers When (1993), granted her with an impressive string of hits.
Trisha continued to make albums and tour relentlessly through 1994 - 95, joining Brooks, Randy Travis and others on the road. But she also developed a more intimate kind of performance in theatrical venues that would become her signature show. She could communicate in a more personal way with her audience and showcase her essence as a singer.
On March 13, 1999, she was inducted as the 71stmember of the grand Ole Opry. She sang "Wrong Side of Memphis" along with others including a tribute to Patsy Cline. Cline's daughter and husband, who attended the induction, graced Yearwood with one of Patsy's necklaces.
Currently she resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with her husband, Robert Reynolds. They were married on May 21, 1994 and they enjoy collecting antiques. They try to keep their lives as normal as possible and share laundry duty, midnight shop at Walmart and make their own bed.
