Biography

David Scott Foley was born on January 4, 1963 in Etobicoke (a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) to Mary and Michael Foley. Foley went to an alternative high school which he dropped out of at 18. Foley became addicted to television at a young age and began his career in show business as a stand up comedian.

Foley broke into the business as a cross dresser in the HBO and CBC co-produced production "The Kids in the Hall". This comedy series broke all the boundaries using a troupe of men who liked to cross-dress. The show was adored by audiences and received critical acclaim. When the show went off the air though none of the cast had jobs lined up.

It wasn't long after the demise of "The Kids in the Hall" that Disney contacted Foley with the promise of a job. With this thought in mind, Foley moved his wife and young son to Hollywood. When he arrived in Hollywood the Disney promise fell through. Fortunately another television role for a series entitled "NewsRadio" came along and saved this stranded Canadian from unemployment. The role in the series had been written specifically for him by the creator of "The Larry Sanders Show." As with "The Kids in the Hall" this show too received critical acclaim and the adoration of fans. Early on scheduling changes by the network seemed to indicate the demise of the series, but it prevailed. The death of one of the stars, Phil Hartman, wasn't even enough to stop it. 1999 seen the end of "NewsRadio" though, as the network finally pulled the plug on the series.

Meanwhile, Foley spread his wings and began to amass a series of film credits such as "A Bug's Life" and "Blast From the Past". Initially, it is said that Foley auditioned for "A Bug's Life" in order to meet the people who had created "Toy Story". The film-makers though, thought Foley's quietly geeky tone was just what was needed to bring Flik to three-dimensional life. In a "Blast From the Past" Foley got to star with such names as Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone therefore bringing him to the attention to a whole new audience.

Career wise, Foley is taking off, on a personal note though, he is undergoing some changes. He is no longer married to his wife Tabitha (Southey). Even so, he and Tabitha still take the kids on vacations together. As well, he has dyed his hair blond and seems to be enjoying himself.
