Biography

At 6'4", 185 lbs, David Hasselhoff, a handsome blue/green-eyed Baltimore, Maryland native, is one of the most recognizable faces on TV throughout the world. Recently named one of "TV's Most Powerful Stars" by TV Guide, he is also one of the busiest. He is not only the star and executive producer of Baywatch but also an accomplished singer and popular recording artist.

Hasselhoff first came to the attention of the viewing public when he starred as "Dr. Snapper Foster" on CBS's soap opera "The Young & The Restless." In the role for six years, Hasselfoff became one of the most popular leading men on daytime television and earned a huge fan following, many whom continue to identify him as "Snapper".

He left the cast of "Y & R" and went on to star for four years as "Michael Knight" in the NBC's hit series "Knight Rider." The show was a great success and earned Hasselhoff a People's Choice Award for most popular actor. It also laid the ground work for Hasselhoff's next foray into episodic television - Baywatch - the hour-long drama series focusing on the adventures of the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, which debuted in 1989. Though the series enjoyed good ratings, the network canceled the series after only one season. Undeterred, Hasselhoff and his partners acquired the rights to the show and, based on Hasselhoff's popularity overseas, they were able to secure financing and revive Baywatch in 1991.

Currently in it's ninth year of production, Baywatch stars David Hasselhoff as life guard "Mitch Buchannon," recently promoted to Captain. The show has become a piece of American pop culture as well as an international television phenomenon. America's top television export, Baywatch is seen in 140 countries by over one billion viewers each week (as estimated by Guinness Book of World Records). The show's amazing international popularity let Entertainment Weekly to proclaim Baywatch as "The Most Popular Television Series in the History of the Planet" in an October 1993 cover story.

In addition to his time on the set and in the recording studio, Hasselhoff spends many hours visiting children's hospitals throughout the world. Hasselhoff founded the charity, "Race for Life," which works with terminally ill and handicapped children in Indianapolis. He is also a key participant in "Camp Baywatch," which helps disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles. In addition, he is active with Starlight Foundation and with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As Hasselhoff says "God has given me so much, I have to give back."
