Biography

With a masters degree in Chemical Engineering, Dolph Lundgren's career took a sharp curve when he met the famed acting coach Warren Robertson. Since his decision to try his hand at acting, Lundgren has scored roles in such noted films as: Hidden Assassin,, Johnny Mnemonic, The Peacekeeper, The Punisher, Red Scorpion, and Rocky IV to name a few. Lundgren is "one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood today. Far too many people brush him off as merely an "action movie guy," when in fact the man has clearly demonstrated his wide range of acting abilities in many of his movies." Lundgren has made a lot of action movies, and the role of the "tough guy" is what he does best. Lundgren can not simply be characterized as solely an "action movie guy."

Born Hans Lundgen on November 3, 1959 in Stockholm, Sweden. His wife, Anette Qviberg (aka Anette Qviberg-Lundgren), is a Fashion stylist and jewelry designer. They met in 1990 and Lundgren proposed at midnight New Year's Eve during the press tour for "Universal Soldier". They married in 1994 in Stockholm and honeymooned in Marrakech. They have a daughter Ida Sigrid Lundgren who was born April 29, 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden. Lundgen and his family have residences in New York City and Stockholm, Sweden.

Lundgen attended the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, the Washington State University and Clemson in South Carolina University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. He majored in chemical engineering (MA 1982). He also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. on Fulbright scholarship. With all this education, his claim to fame is playing the Russian fighter Drago in Rocky IV.

Besides being well educated, Lundgen has been involved in martial arts since the age of fourteen. He has a second degree black belt in karate. Lundgren's accomplishments in the sport include being the captain of the Swedish full-contact karate team and the winner of the European Heavyweight Full-Contact Karate Championship in 1980 and 1981, as well as the Australian heavyweight division title in 1982. Lundgren was selected by the U.S. Olympic committee to serve as the Team Leader of the 1996 U.S. Olympic pentathlon team. As the Team Leader, he was responsible for administrative coordination and planning between the U.S. team and the USOC, and is also actively involved in promoting the image of his sport.

Richard Dimitri says about Lundgen in a newsgroup posting that "Dolph is a very kind and well spoken man. He was great with my students and whenever he's in town I gladly give him the keys to my gym." Dimitri met Lundgen when he came to his Montreal based martial arts gym to train for his third degree black belt. Another posting talks about Lundgen as "a very intelligent and great individual with no ego or attitude whatsoever. He himself is aware that his films aren't that great however, he has a major following in Europe and the Orient and his films are steadily getting better (still not great, but better)."
