Biography
Ewan McGregor was born in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland on March 31, 1971. After a normal run of school he joined the Perth Repertory Theatre, and then continued on to train at he Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His studies at Guildhall led to a key role in Dennis Potter’s “Lipstick On Your Collar”. Which in turn led to his appearance in “The Scarlet And The Black”, but this time Ewan would be playing the lead.
McGregor continued to turn up on television on both sides of the Atlantic until the late 1996’s. He was cast in TV episodes of ER and Tales of the Crypt. His big break into film came when he was cast in “Shallow Grave” and quickly went on to appear in “Blue Juice” and Peter Greenaway’s “The Pillow Book”. Ewan then landed a role in the critically acclaimed “Trainspotting” where he lost thirty pounds and shaved his head to play a heroin addict. His performance was exceptional and his career was to reach new heights. Ewan McGregor had arrived.
Having gained the attention of audiences as well as critics globally with his stunning performance, he decided to take a stylistic left turn by accepting a role in Frank Churchill’s elegant comedy “Emma”. Again the reviews were wonderful and his performance was phenomenal. Ewan continued working steadily in tinsel-town on such productions as “Brassed Off”, “Nightwatch”, “The Serpent’s Kiss” and “A Life Less Ordinary”.
His latest triumph was being cast as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the three Star Wars prequels. The first of which is “Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace” which was released earlier this year with fanatical anticipation and a whole lot of hoop-la. As a result there has been a lot of media attention swirling around Ewan. Ironically, he follows his Uncle, Denis Lawson (who played pilot Wedge Antilles), into the Star Wars Universe. Lawson played in “Star Wars 1V, V, and V1” and was the only rebel fighter pilot, who wasn’t a major character, that made it through all three movies.
Ewan has a full slate in front of him. He is to begin work on the second Star Wars Prequel in the year 2000. He also has his own production company, Natural Nylon, in which he has several projects that he’d like to complete. He is also a husband of three years to Eve Mouvrakis, a French production designer that he met while filming in France, and a father to Clara who was born February, 1996.
