Biography

Born March 21, 1962 to James and Patricia Broderick became the proud parents of the gifted actor Matthew Broderick. Though Matthew Broderick is more famous for his theatre work, he is also known for such films as "WarGames" (1983), "Biloxi Blues" (1988), and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986). It was the latter film that made him a star to the fans. Matthew's lot seemed to be in the roll of the rebellious teen. His looks lent to this personification perfectly and his unique ability to make the transition to the character flawless lent to his prowess as an actor. It would be the theatre though where Matthew's career would shine.

When Matthew was seventeen he entered the acting arena under the tutelage of his famous father James Broderick. Matthew's success was almost instantaneous on the theatre front, but it would take him awhile to find his footing in the film industry. When Matthew's film career seemed to be taking off though, his father James was dying. Always before a theatre debut, James would help the young actor to perfect his performance. Once his career was in full swing though, he would have to do without his fathers tutoring sessions and play it alone. Even so, Matthew succeeded to capture the audiences in both film and theatre.

One the home front, Matthew suffered his losses and set backs. He eventually married Sarah Jessica Parker in 1997 after a long courtship. He would also spread his wings and add director to his credits with "Infinity" (1996) a film based on the life of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Richard Feynman. Following his director debut film, he acted in a number of films including "The Cable Guy" (1996) (which was a failure according to critics), "Godzilla" (1998), "Inspector Gadget" (1999) and with the filming of "Election" (1999) and "You Can Count On Me" (2000) his success improved. He has since returned to his love, the theatre, with rave reviews for his performance in "The Producers" (2001) (stage version of the film by Mel Brooks).
