Biography

Matthew Perry was born on August 19, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts but raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He is the only child of Suzanne (a former Canadian TV anchor and onetime press secretary for Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau) and actor John Perry (the guy in the Old Spice commercials), who were divorced when he was less than a year old.

Perry is a tennis-lover and started playing at the age of 4. By the time he was 13 he was ranked #2 player in Ottawa. He received his first taste of acting in grade seven and recalls "After I got my first Laugh on stage, I was hooked." His mother married Canadian anchorman Keith Morrison when Perry was 10 and proceeded to have four more children. When Perry was 15, he moved to Los Angeles to live with his father. Initially the move was to test his tennis and acting skills but Perry eventually stopped pursuing the tennis dream but not before he was rated #17 nationally in the junior singles , and ranked #3 (along with his partner) in doubles competition.

After graduation, Perry was about to enroll in the University of Southern California when he was offered a leading role on the TV Series "Boys Will Be Boys." He accepted the offer and his career began. Other TV-series credits include regular roles on "Home Free" and "Sydney" as well as a recurring part on "Growing Pains." He guest-starred on such series as "Beverly Hills, 90210," "Who's the Boss?," "The Tracey Ullman Show," "Empty Nest" and "The John Larroquestte Show."

In 1993, Perry and good friend Andrew Hill Newman decided to write their own sitcom, "Maxwell's House," which was about the lives of twentysomething friends. Too bad NBC already had a similar sitcom in the works. The sitcom was later known as "Friends." In 1994, Perry auditioned for the show and won the part of Chandler Bing.

He also has a fairly successful film career on the side. His movies include; "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon," "She's Out of Control," "Parallel Lives" "Fools Rush In" and "Edwards and Hunt" The First American Road Trip" with Chris Farley.

You can catch him with Bruce Willis in "The Whole Nine Yards" new out in theaters.
