Biography

"True Romance" and "Natural Born Killers" were the first scripts ever produced by the hot new director-actor-screenwriter of the 90's. Known for his "amoral", "anti-intellectual" "frenetic, comically violent worldview" (according to Mr Showbiz.Com) Quentin Tarantino seems to be making a name for himself with fans and critics alike. His first few scripts he was unable to get together the baking he required to direct the films himself, he sold them and continued his "madman" like process of generating more. Quentin's writing follows a ritual, which does not include a computer. For him to work he requires three red and three black felt-tipped pens and a notebook. Money baking problems were solved when Quentin commenced his next project " Reservoir Dogs" which consisted of money from the "True Romance" script he sold and money from LIVE Entertainment. For a boy trained in the art of movie making by observing the masters - actually he watched every video he could get his hands on - he wowed Hollywood.

Even so, Quentin didn't wow Hollywood as much as he did with his next film which netted a total of seven Academy Award nominations and a Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or. "Pulp Fiction" would be the film to mark Quentin Tarantino as a celebrity. (By the way "Pulp Fiction" took home the Oscar in the "Best Original Screenplay" category only.) After the success of "Pulp Fiction" Quentin then tried his hand at acting, scoring some small roles in a few independent features. He followed up "Pulp Fiction" with "Four Rooms", " From Dusk Till Dawn", "Curdled", and " Jackie Brown". It wasn't until "Rum Punch" that Quentin's reputation would be restored somewhat though. Since "Rum Punch" Quentin kept busy executive producing a number of other films and writing a screenplay for director John Woo. None of which have met the success "Pulp Fiction" produced.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 27, 1963, Quentin's nursing student mother Connie was 16 and his law student/actor father Tony was 21. Quentin's parents moved to Los Angeles when Quentin was 2. Quentin grew up in LA where he and his mother enjoyed the cinema. As a result, Quentin fell in love with the cinema and spent as much time as he could watching movies. At 22 he started working for "Video Archives" a video store where he spent his time watching and recommending movies to customers. In 1986 he helped out a friend by writing his first film screenplay " My Best Friend's Birthday" which was co-written by the friend Craig Hamann. Shortly thereafter he followed up with the screenplay "True Romance" and his director-screenwriting career was born.
