Biography

Rob Schneider is a native of San Francisco who realized early in life that comedy was his calling. He was inspired by the work of Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, Peter Sellers and Monty Python. Rob had an obvious talent for the industry and by the age of 15 he began writing jokes and appearing at local venues such as the Holy City Zoo.

After graduating from High School, Rob toured Europe for 6 months. He returned home, to the United States and put his nose to the grindstone determined to succeed in the entertainment business. Rob’s explanation to pursuing acting is “The real reason I decided on show business was to avoid a day job. In 1984, I had twelve different employers.”

His perseverance paid off and soon he found himself working the comedy club circuit. He opened for comedy talents such as Jay Leno, Dana Carvey, and Jerry Seinfeld. In the winter of 1988, he relocated to Los Angeles, and obtained a manager and agent. He then began auditioning, and writing jokes and television specials for a number of well-established comics. In 1990, his first big break came when he performed on HBO’s “13th Annual Young Comedians Special” and caught the eye of Lorne Michaels (executive producer for Saturday Night Live).

Michaels hired Schneider to write for Saturday Night Live but Rob had a strong desire to perform as well. His desire was granted and Rob appeared on the hit television series. His character Richard (The Richmeister) quickly became very popular. People began using the jargon of the “Richmeister” in everyday life. Who could forget “Dan…the Danmeister, Dan-o-ramma, sharpening his pencil.” The Houston Chronicle reported, “Like Dana Carvey’s “The Church Lady”, and other popular “SNL” characters, Schneider’s “Richmeister” has made its way to offices, breakfast tables and radio shows across the country.”

Rob ventured into film with roles in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”, “Demolition Man” and “The Beverly Hillbillies”. He left the cast of Saturday Night Live shortly after making these films to concentrate his career on the movies. Since then he has appeared in “Judge Dredd”, opposite Sylvester Stalone, and with Kelsey Grammer in “Down Periscope”. He also starred with, Academy Award winner, Martin Landau and Jonathan Taylor Thomas in “Pinocchio”.

His next project was with a character by the name of Jamie in the Television comedy series “Men Behaving Badly”. He played the role of the politically incorrect freeloader convincingly. He says that there is a genuine quality to the character and that is what attracted him to the role and that “Jamie is totally out for himself.” He goes on to explain “He is like a 10-year old in an adult body, but he can get away with stuff because he’s likable. Guys will try to get away with as much as they can until they get busted. This is a real life kind of guy.”

His latest project is in the comedy “Big Daddy” which reunites him with SNL cast-mate Adam Sandler. Rob divides his “off” time between Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is the proprietor of a dance club, the DNA lounge and Eleven, an acclaimed restaurant in the Bay area.
