Best known for his role as "James Bond, 007", Sean Connery started out in a much different life. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Thomas Connery was the older of two sons of a truckdriver father. Connery left school at the age of 13 to help support the family. He worked at a number of jobs and took up bodybuilding as a past time. His bodybuilding led him to compete in the 1950 Mr. Universe contest (he came in third). While in London for the competition, he tried out for and won the part of a singing sailor in a year long production of "South Pacific". When asked what name to put on the marquee, Connery used the name Sean. From this point on he hasn't stopped.

He is also noted for his roles in such films as "The Rock", "The Hunt for Red October", "First Knight", "The Untouchables", and "The Entrapment". He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1987, for his role as the Irish cop Malone in "The Untouchables" and was named "the sexist man" in 1989.
Connery has managed to make the transition into mature roles with grace and style. He credits this to his habit of studying how a character moves for each role he plays. His movement is what ultimately decided him for the role of "James Bond". He has taken movement and voice lessons over the years to assist in ensure success in show business.
Connery has one son, Jason, who is also an actor. Jason's mother was an Australian born actress Diane Cilento. Connery divorced Jason's mother and has been married to a French-Moroccan painter Micheline Roquebrune since 1975.
In his off hours, Connery enjoys a rousing game of golf. He learned the game during one of his "James Bond" roles and has continued to cultivate his game since. He has shown some success with a win in 1996.
