For ten years Tobias Vincent Maguire has been working in show biz hoping to make it big. Tobey Maguire's day has finally come.

Tobey Maguire was born June 27, 1975 in Santa Monica, California. His parents were hard working unwed couple. Wendy his mother was a secretary and Vincent his father a cook. At the time of his birth his parents were 18 and 20. Within two years of his birth, his parents had married and divorced. Growing up, Maguire went from one home to the other. He moved constantly between California, Washington, and Oregon. With such a topsy-turvy home life, it is no wonder he turned to acting.

Maguire started out in show biz doing commercials and one-line parts. This continued until he landed a starring role in a short lived TV sitcom "Great Scott!" But his time had not yet come. The show was cancelled after nine weeks and it was back to the audition lines. It wasn't until he landed a supporting role as Kate Capshaw's son in Griffin Dunne's "Duke of Groove" that he achieved recognition and with it better parts. The film received an Oscar nomination which spurred Maguire's career into high profile. He got a number of starring roles in movies that didn't receive critical acclaim but kept his name up there. In 1998 he worked on two films, one a short film called "Don's Plum" which landed in court and may never be seen in North America. The publicity surrounding the film provided Maguire with much needed press coverage and the resulting publicity has made him a hot commodity.

As a result of all the publicity, Tobey Maguire's past two years have proved to be very successful. He appeared in 1999's "Ride With the Devil" which costarred Jewel, and also starred in "The Cider House Rules" in the same year. The movie "The Cider House Rules" was a huge success receiving nominations for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, winning 2 of the awards (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor). 2000 seen him acting with Michael Douglas in "Wonderboys," and in 2001 he slatted to appear as the comic book hero Spiderman.
