Established superstars
mingle with new blood
Country music is a unique mixture of styles that respect the old masters, and nurture the new. The latest trends incorporate lyrics with deeper themes. Our polls reflect the blend of pure Country with light rock. The stars of today croon romantic love balads, then turn around and get you hopping with old-style rock and roll. Shania Twain is a perfect combination between musical talent and physical beauty. Physical beauty is one of important elements in building a country star. Just ask the ladies who are George Strait fans if they notice he's handsome. Older performers like Patsy Cline or Alabama still make the top twenty, but the presence of older performers is a lot less than in our rock and roll poll. Let's watch to see which new bands have the staying power to keep topping our polls. Sometimes performers are like shooting stars, lighting the whole countryside, then fading into obscurity. We'll report significant movement by groups or performers. The winners |
| Shania Twain ropes first spot in our survey.Canadian singer, Shania Twain was born on August 28, 1965 in Timmons, Ontario. This means she is over thirty, but you’d never know it to look at her. Twain’s lyrics combine deeper themes with slick production. Her romantic lyrics could melt the heart of the hardest man. Twain’s career bolted upward in 1995 with the album, "The Woman in Me". Awards she has won include: This singer portrays a simple, clean and beautiful image that doesn’t begin to expose the depth of personal tragedy she has faced. She lost her parents when she was 21, which placed extra responsibility on her shoulders. Her perseverance has paid off though, and she can now be counted as a true country music Star. Twain’s single, "You’re Still The One," is listed as the number two song on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles chart. Garth Brooks rides hard into second place. Brooks is Country and Western’s answer to Kiss, with dynamic stage shows and videos. He is the best selling solo artist in US music history, with 62-67 million in sales (depending who you ask). Millions is the best way to describe this artist. Millions of fans, millions of album sales, millions in revenue. Brooks has won 39 major music awards. Garth’s songs range from light, fun songs, to dark reflections on life. Look for Garth Brooks to remain in the top five for some time. LeAnn Rimes wrangles third place in our poll. Rimes let loose her first notes on August 28, 1982, in Jackson, Mississippi. This young lady (age 16) began singing before she was two and rose to stardom when she was 14. Her first album, "All That," turned heads in Nashville. When the dust settled from the bidding war, she signed with Curb Records. Rimes has won Grammmys, Academy of Country Music awards, and an Amercian Music Awards Favorite New Artist award. Rimes doesn’t want the attention paid to her young age as much as she wants recognition for her music. It’s still hard to forget about her age when college is one of her future aspirations. Faith Hill storms into fourth place in our poll. Her previous album, "It Matters To Me," went double platinum. Hill needed a break from the road, so she took three years off. That’s a brave move for any performer, but after all, you’ve just got to have faith! Hill’s latest album,"Faith," currently holds the number seven position on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Hill is gorgeous at 30 years old and has a little girl with her husband, Tim McGraw. George Strait stampedes into number five in our poll. Strait’s amazing career brings him undying devotion from his fans. His album, "One step at a Time," is currently rated number eight on Billboard Magazine’s Top Country Albums. You can expect this number to soar even higher. His current tour is expected to gross $34 million. 50,000 screaming fans, in Houston can’t be wrong! Strait is a supernova among country stars. |
